Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Intake: 60 Established: 2024 Dept. of Electrical Engineering

Introduction

Established in 2024, Electrical and Computer Engineering is a new, innovative interdisciplinary programme offered by the Electrical Engineering department. It bridges the world of electrical systems with digital computing — a combination that is increasingly central to modern technology. From embedded systems and digital hardware to control circuits and computer architecture, this programme prepares students for a world where electronics and computing are inseparable. Students choosing this programme over traditional EEE often have a stronger inclination towards digital systems, programming, and hardware-software integration.

Core Subjects

The programme covers much of the same foundational ground as EEE in the early semesters — circuits, electronics, and mathematics. As it progresses, it diverges into subjects like Computer Organisation, Digital System Design, Operating Systems, Embedded Systems, Computer Networks, and Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, while retaining core electrical subjects like Power Systems and Control Systems. The result is a graduate who is comfortable both in electrical engineering roles and in computer engineering or embedded systems domains.

Faculty

Students in this programme benefit from the same faculty pool as the EEE programme — a large, research-active department with expertise across electrical and digital systems. This cross-disciplinary exposure from faculty members enriches the learning experience considerably.

Labs

Students have access to the full suite of Electrical Engineering department labs as well as computing and digital design resources, giving them hands-on experience across both worlds.

Career Opportunities

Graduates are well-placed for roles in embedded systems development, VLSI design, automation, power electronics, IT, and semiconductor industries. This programme is particularly attractive for students interested in pursuing roles at the intersection of hardware and software — in companies working on automotive electronics, IoT, robotics, and defence systems.
