Introduction
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at CET is one of the most sought-after and competitive departments in the institution. Core Subjects
The curriculum is rich and progressive. Early semesters build fundamentals through Data Structures and Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics, Digital Systems, and Object-Oriented Programming. Middle semesters introduce Operating Systems, Database Management Systems, Computer Organisation and Architecture, Computer Networks, Compiler Design, and Software Engineering. Later semesters open up electives in areas like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Computer Vision, and Blockchain Technology. The department also emphasises programming — students work extensively in Python, C, C++, Java, and web development technologies throughout the programme.
Faculty
The department has an active and well-qualified faculty body involved in research across algorithms, machine learning, natural language processing, and computer networks. The department regularly hosts Faculty Development Programmes, the most recent being a national-level FDP on Algorithmic Thinking with Python. Faculty also actively publish research in reputed international journals and conferences.
Labs
The department has multiple well-equipped computer labs serving UG, PG, and research students. A dedicated Department Library supports academic learning. The department is also closely connected to the High Performance Computing (HPC) facility at CET, one of the most powerful computing resources available in a Kerala engineering college, which students and researchers can access for computationally intensive projects.
Placement Statistics
CSE graduates from CET are among the most actively placed in the institution. Recruiters include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Tata Elxsi, UST, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, and numerous high-growth startups. Top packages in recent batches have been impressive, with several graduates receiving offers well above ₹20 LPA. The department tracks and publishes placement data annually, and the Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU) provides dedicated support for internships and campus recruitment.
Research & Achievements
The department co-organized the 6th International Conference on Control, Communication, and Computing (ICCC 2025). Students have won the "Best Women in Engineering Team" award at the IEEE R10 Innovation Challenge. The IDEA Summer Internship programme gives students an intensive research-oriented internship experience. The department also has an active patents portfolio and annual publications in international journals.
Student Activities
The department has vibrant student groups including the Developer Student Club (DSC-CET), Glitch CET (a coding and competitive programming community), and participation in Google Developer Groups (GDG). Students regularly participate in hackathons, competitive programming contests, and open-source contributions. The department also runs a peer mentoring and alumni interaction programme.
