Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation

Intake: 60 Dept. of Electronics & Communication NBA Accredited

Introduction

Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (AEI) is a specialised branch under the ECE department that focuses on the practical application of electronic principles to measurement, sensing, and control systems. Where ECE focuses more broadly on communication and digital systems, AEI zooms in on the instruments and systems that monitor and control the physical world — from industrial process control and biomedical devices to precision measurement and automation. It is a smaller, close-knit batch within the ECE department, which often means more personal attention, tighter peer bonds, and focused skill development.

Core Subjects

AEI shares several foundational subjects with ECE — Analog and Digital Electronics, Signals and Systems, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers — but diverges into specialised territory including Transducers and Sensors, Process Control and Instrumentation, Industrial Electronics, Biomedical Instrumentation, Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Virtual Instrumentation. Tools like LabVIEW are introduced for instrument design and simulation. The programme bridges electronics and mechanical/chemical process systems, making graduates versatile across industries.

Faculty

AEI students are taught by the same experienced faculty pool as the ECE branch, with specific faculty members having deep expertise in instrumentation, biomedical systems, and control engineering.

Labs

Students access the full ECE department lab infrastructure, with instrumentation-specific labs for process control, sensors, and measurement systems. The strong lab culture in the ECE department ensures hands-on learning is central to the AEI experience as well.

Placement Statistics

AEI graduates find roles in industries such as pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, power plants, manufacturing, and IT. Companies like Honeywell, Emerson, ABB, BPCL, and various automation firms actively hire AEI graduates. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme also opens doors to software companies and product development firms.

Achievements

AEI students have consistently performed well academically and in competitions. Students from this programme won ₹1 lakh at the CareHack national hackathon in 2025 for developing CareGame, an app that helps parents screen children for cognitive and emotional challenges. A student from this batch was also part of the Republic Day parade NCC contingent in New Delhi.
